Red-shouldered hawk released in Larkey Park

Last week, the wildlife rehabilitation hospital at Lindsay Wildlife Museum released a young Red-shouldered hawk at Larkey Park, right next to the museum. The animal was brought to the wildlife hospital from only two blocks away in mid-June with a broken wing and inflammation associated with the injury. The immature fledgling was treated for its injuries and rehabilitated over a two month period. During this time the hawk practiced flying in a large aviary and learned new hunting skills. Hospital staff is confident this Red-shouldered hawk is a skillful hunter who will do well in the wild. Upon release the hawk flew confidently up to a high branch in a eucalyptus tree and settled in surveying its surroundings.
